TRAINING:

Your trainer will be gundog and behaviourist - Matt Ball. Matt's love affair with man's best friend started when he was just a child. From the age of nine years old, he was working German Shorthaired and Wirehaired Pointers to a high competition standard under his parents who worked, showed and bred gundogs. Matt enjoyed a fulfilling career in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps (RAVC) for 15 years as a dog trainer. His role involved instructing UK and international students and soldiers within the armed forces, police, prison service, HM Customs and civilians both at home and overseas in canine search, protection, tracking and obedience.

Since Matt now runs Dorntanza Gundog Training and has built up a career spanning over 30 years, offering specialised training for working (gun) dogs and their owners, as well as helping pet owners deal with a variety of obedience/behavioural issues with their dogs. Matt's passion is the HPR breeds.

DETAILS OF THE TRAINING DAY:

This is a full days training with a short break for lunch, which involves a bit of theory and plenty of different practical opportunities on Matt's training ground. The training will involve:

  • Basics of steadiness (theory with video footage)

  • Practical training on steadiness to movement, sound (gunfire) and scent with automatic dummy launcher

  • Practical training on pigeon flushing (pointing training)

  • Practical (long line) training in rabbit pen

This would suit the level of those that are at an element of basic retrieve, a basic stop whistle and with fair recall. This would not suit complete novice/beginners.

The maximum number of places available is six.
